Heritage Guardians

Restoration company since 1920

For over a century Riva has cared for architectural heritage, through research, design and conservation.

Our philosophy

Historical notes

A century of restorations, site after site. From the shores of Lake Maggiore to the capitals of Europe.

  1. 01 Leggiuno

    The Lombard shore

Riva was born here, on the “lean shore” of Lake Maggiore described by Piero Chiara, in the hard years after the First World War. Between Leggiuno and its shore of stone and labour began a story that has lasted more than a century.

  2. 02 Stresa

    The Piedmontese shore

On the other shore of Lake Maggiore palaces and grand hotels rose, and with them the firm’s first sites. In Stresa Innocente Riva learned the craft that would carry him to “Greater Milan”.

  3. 03 Milan

    Teatro alla Scala

In Milan Innocente, the company’s founder, crossed the threshold of the “Temple of Opera” and became a protagonist of the post-war reconstruction. Teatro alla Scala, yesterday as today, is in our care.

  4. 04 Madrid

    The age of the hotels

The craft crossed borders. In Madrid, as in other European capitals, Riva gives back value to the grand hotels that shape the face of great cities.

  5. 05 Rome

    In the Eternal City

In Rome the work meets the most ancient history. Among millennia-old stones and archaeological restoration sites the firm invests in research and puts its experience at the service of memory.

Protected heritage

Monuments and architecture protected by the heritage authorities, conserved in respect of their history with authorised, reversible work.

Stories beyond the worksite.

Research

Publications

Studies, articles and in-depth pieces born from the work on historical heritage: research on frescoes, stone surfaces and decorative apparatus, shared with restorers, institutions and scholars. Documenting what is found is part of preserving it for those who come after.

Our vision

Rotonda della Besana, Milan
Rotonda della Besana, Milan
“Every restoration is an act of listening: not erasing time, but keeping its voice.”

Where history carries on

Every great restoration begins with a meeting.
