Castle of Belgioioso — Belgioioso (PV)

Castle of Belgioioso

Castello di Belgioioso was born in 1376 as a hunting residence of Galeazzo II Visconti and took its present form in the eighteenth century, when Prince Antonio Barbiano di Belgioioso entrusted Francesco Croce with the renewal of the palace and park. In the great Italian garden stands the monumental fountain of Neptune and Thetis, an eighteenth-century work by Carlo Beretta, in front of the gate of the «teatro de’ rastelli» completed in 1737.

Between 2023 and 2024 RIVA worked on the restoration of the historic park, one of the most representative in Italy, within the project funded by the PNRR (Mission 1, Culture 4.0, «Historic parks and gardens»). The layout of the garden was re-read on the celebrated plates engraved by Marc’Antonio Dal Re in 1743.

The company took care of the architectural and sculptural component: the fountains and statues of the garden, brought back to light and restored. During the works the buried basin of the fountain of Thetis and Neptune and those of two minor fountains were found. A year-long journey, documented in the video «Restauro del parco storico» on the company’s channel.
