Church of S. Maria delle Grazie

The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Varallo, at the foot of the Sacro Monte, preserves the screen wall frescoed by Gaudenzio Ferrari in 1513 with twenty-one episodes from the life of Christ, the «parete gaudenziana», one of the masterpieces of Piedmontese Renaissance painting. The Franciscan building, with its portico and gabled façade, is a protected monument of national significance.

In 2019 RIVA worked on the building with a restoration of artistic and architectural recovery.

The works followed the principle of minimum intervention: gradual cleaning, consolidation of the plasters and compatible reintegrations, to restore dignity to the envelope without altering its historic fabric.
