Church of St Ignatius of Loyola

The church of Sant’Ignazio di Loyola in Carpi was built by the Jesuits between 1670 and 1682 and since 2008 has housed the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art «Cardinale Rodolfo Pio di Savoia». The Emilia earthquake of 20 May 2012 seriously damaged the structure and forced its closure.

The post-earthquake restoration, awarded in 2017 to a project by Studio Arké of Modena (Anna Allesina and Alessandra Ontani), concerned the dome, the strengthening of the roofs, the replacement of the external windows and the consolidation of the brick vaults, together with the pictorial restoration of the interiors and the cleaning of the altars and decorations.

RIVA carried out the consolidation of the structure and the restoration of the ornaments. The church and the museum reopened on 5 May 2019.
