Villa of Maxentius — Appian Way — Rome

Villa of Maxentius — Appian Way

The Villa of Maxentius, on the via Appia Antica at number 153, is the monumental complex built by the emperor at the beginning of the fourth century: the palace, the circus and the mausoleum of Romulus, in opus vittatum, set in the Appia Antica park.

Between 2023 and 2024 RIVA took part in the conservative restoration of the park’s structures, within the PNRR project of Roma Capitale (2022–2026) supervised by the Sovrintendenza Capitolina, which provided for the removal of invasive vegetation and biological attacks, the conservative restoration of the wall surfaces, the waterproofing of wall tops and walking surfaces and the consolidation with masonry reconstruction and metal anchors.

The archaeological site combined cleaning and safety works with the systematic survey of the emerging structures.
