Archbishop’s Seminary
The Palazzo del Seminario, at corso Venezia 11, is one of the largest historic buildings in Milan: seat of the Archbishop’s Seminary of Porta Orientale since the time of Federico Borromeo, it opens onto the street with the Baroque portal designed by Francesco Maria Richini in 1630, in ceppo gentile stone, with two caryatids, two mascarons and the Borromean motto «Humilitas».
Between 2018 and 2022 RIVA carried out the conservative restoration of the portal and façades: the scaffolding went up in March 2018 and came down in April 2021, after almost three years of work. Calibrated cleaning, consolidation of the stone and plasters and reintegrations gave back to the city the portal considered the most beautiful in Milan.
The intervention accompanied the transformation of the complex, left semi-unused for years, into the Portrait Milano hotel of the Ferragamo family (Lungarno Collection), opened in 2022.
